‘Destiny 2’ Finally Has A Non-Raid Alternative To The Legendary Forbearance To Farm

If you are making a list of the best weapons in Destiny history, there is no doubt that Forbearence, the wave frame, chain reaction grenade launcher from Vow of the Disciple is pretty high up there. It is easily one of the best mob clearing weapons in the game, if not the best, and many people have been using it non-stop for years racking up thousands, tens of thousands of kills on it. I’ve certainly seen hundreds of thousands, even.

However, it’s…a raid weapon. And a massive portion of the Destiny playerbase does not raid. So now, Bungie has finally come up with an alternative that players can farm for, placing it in the regular and GM Nightfalls as of this week.

That new weapon is Undercurrent, also an arc, wave frame grenade launcher. However, it’s different from Forbearance in that the main attractive perk is not chain reaction, but instead voltshot, which jolts targets after a reload, spreading chain lighting for you guessed it, great mob clear.

So, what’s the god roll for Undercurrent? You can take your pick:

• Lead from Gold/Voltshot for more frequent ammo.
• Ambitious Assassin/Voltshot to echo Forbearance’s god roll a little more.
• Demolitionist/Voltshot for insta-reload on grenade and lots of energy after clearing those mobs.

My pick of these is probably demo, but I’m open to testing them all out. There is some debate about whether Forbearance is just empirically better with chain reaction because that does not need a condition like reloading after a kill to trigger. I would agree with that, though there is something to be said about the jolt keyword interacting with other elements of an arc build in a way that chain reaction does not.

This is also the GM weapon of the week, so you can get an adept version of it, similar to how Forbearance also has one. Though if you don’t raid, I’m not 100% sure you do GMs, so you can certainly farm lower tiers to grab a normal one and try to get god rolls that way. 1 in 6 chance of getting Voltshot. Also, it’s a double rewards Nightfall week plus the arrival of this new, very good weapon, so if there was ever a week you wanted to farm it, it’s going to be this one.

I would definitely pick one of these up. Even as someone who does have Forbearance, I still want one to give it a shot and see the differences. Seems like the first new Nightfall weapon in a while really worth going hard for.
